The Florida ride will be available beginning in the
fall of 2010.
The ride begins and ends in Orlando so that riders
can take a few days on either end of the ride to visit Disney.
Riders will visit Cedar Key, then ride down the
coast to the barrier islands of St Petersburg/Clearwater. At the
south end of the barrier island at the mouth of Tampa Bay is the Ft.
Desoto park, named the best beach in the United States.
From Ft. Desoto the ride continues south to the
Sanibel Island area. Those of you who read the novels of
Randy Wayne White will be familiar with this area as the home of Doc
Ford, the character in Whites series of novels. Doc Fords Grill on
Sanibel is a great place for food and drinks.
The ride continues down the west coast of Florida
past Naples to Alligator Alley which will take us across the famous
everglades.
At the eastern end of Alligator alley we will turn
south through Miami and onto the Overseas Highway, 127 miles of
stringing together the islands between the mainland and Key West.
We will take an option day here so that riders can
enjoy the sites around Key West. Sunset at Mallory Square is a
must, followed by visits to Captain Tony's and Sloppy Joe's both
Hemingway hangouts. Parrot Heads will be familiar with Captain
Tony's from "Last Mango in Paris". Jimmy Buffet got his start
there playing between sets of the regular band. Captain Tony paid him
$10 and 3 Budweisers.
From the Keys we ride up the east coast of the
state to Daytona Beach. Some of the possibilities here include a
visit to the NASA facility at Kennedy Space Center, airboat rides,
alligator watching, or just hanging out on the beach.
